MAVERICK MAGAZINE REVIEW, APRIL, 2005

LA based singer-songwriter Sarah Stanley, along with her kick-ass band has become a local favorite around the West Coast bars and clubs. Influenced by her upbringing in both Hawaii and Texas, her music has also been heard on many Indie film sound-tracks. Now comes her debut album “Sarah Stanley” (Fatoak Records FO-35000) *** a well produced set that straddles the boundaries between folk-rock, country and Americana. Stanley, who wrote or co-wrote nine of the ten songs, ventures into heartache ballads, painful confessionals and sad sagas, but has several songs that can still elicit a smile due to their musical excellence. Tuck Me In, This Bottle, San Antonio and the closing Last Song are the most memorable on offer here. A very cerebral disc; if you like Norah Jones, Kasey Chambers and Lucinda Williams, this disc could be for you.
